Alabo Opia

Alabo Opia was a member of the Federal House of Representatives during the Nigerian first republic. A leader of the Mid-West state movement in Port Harcourt, he later became the government Chief Whip in the Mid-West House of Assembly.


Opia was born on April 4, 1926 to Opia Ikegwe. He graduated from Enitonna High School, Port Harcourt in 1946 and was later a licensed buying agent.

In 1959, he won the Aboh district parliamentary election, scoring over 20,000 votes out of a total of 39, 483 The late Alabo Opia passed on on 23 December, 2011.
