Deborah Jibowu

Deborah Jibowu is a Nigerian administrator and educator who is considered to be the first Nigerian woman to receive a bachelor of science (Hons) degree in a science course. She attended the University of Manchester and the University of London.

Life

Jibowu was born on December 26, 1924 to a Nigerian chief and pastor, the Olujudo of Iddo, Rev Fasan. She attended C.M.S Day Schools before a chance encounter with the late Bishop Jones in 1934 led her to Kudeti Girls School, Ibadan. From Kudeti, she then went to C.M.S. Girls School, Lagos. After completing her studies, she began teaching at C.M.S. Girls School and Queens College. She later married Olumuyiwa Jibowu.

During the 1950s and the 1960s, she was a member of the Western Regional Scholarship Board and the Local Government Service Board. (1)
