Ekundayo Phillips

Ekundayo Phillips was one of Nigeria's pioneering composers who was proficient in composing church music. He was an organist, ethnomusicologist and choral conductor. He was also a prominent pharmacist in Lagos. His Lagos store was the earliest to engage in sight testing.

Ekundayo Phillips was born in 1884. He was educated at various government schools including stints at the government hospital, Lagos, Trinity College of Music and the British Optical Institute. Ekundayo succeeded in both his career choice and his other passion: music. He was an organist at the Christ Church and composed Yoruba dirgies from the choral style of music.
