Ibikunle Akitoye was a titled ruler of Lagos for a brief period of three years during the 1920s. He was born in the city in 1871 and was educated at C.M.S. Grammar School. He went to work as an apprentice after completing studies and was with a German firm working as an apprentice book keeper for three years. He later left the firm and worked with the Railway Service as an Assistant Railway Paymaser. He was there for some time before entering business on his own account serving as a commission's agent mostly on cotton goods and textiles.
