John Sodipo

John Olubi Sodipo was a Nigerian professor of philosophy who co-founded the Nigerian Philosophical Association in 1975. He is Nigeria's first professor of philosophy. In 1982, he became the pioneer(first)Vice Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University(Formerly Ogun State University).

Sodipo was also editor of a philosophy journal, Second Order. He was educated at Remo Secondary School, Nigerian College of Arts, Science and Technology, University of Ibadan and the University of Durham. In 1971, he became a professor of philosophy and head of the philosophy department at Ife, he was later dean of the Faculty of Arts. He co-authored with Barry Hallen the book 'Knowledge, Belief and African Witchcraft:Analytical Experiments in African Philosophy'.

Prof J. Olubi Sodipo was recognised as one of the fourty most prominent indigenes of Ogun State since the creation of the state in 1976.
