L.A. Cardoso was a Lagos businessman who engaged in a variety of commercial activities spanning auctions and cocoa farming during the early twentieth century. He was also a commission agent and produce merchant. Apart from his commercial activities, he was a member of the original Aborigines Protection Society in Lagos
Cardoso was born in Lagos in 1865. He attended St Gregory's Grammar School for secondary education and soon after started his career as a headmaster. While working, he started trading on the side to supplement his income but in 1893, he devoted his effort into full time commerce after leaving his prior position.
He was among a number of liberated slaves who acquired and farmed on land around Agege, an area owned the the Awori's, a Yoruba sub-group.
