Muhammed Basil Agusto

Muhammed Lawal Basil Agusto (1886-1971) was one of Nigeria's foremost lawyers and he is sometimes credited as the first Nigerian muslim lawyer. He was educated in London and after completing his studies, he returned to Nigeria in 1924 and became established as a lawyer in Lagos. A devout Muslim, prior to traveling abroad, he was a member of the Ahmadi's in Lagos. However, on his return, he left the Ahmadiyya society and founded the Islamic Society of Nigeria (Jama'at Ul-Islamiyya). (1)
