Nigerian model awards
In 2004 it was Bisi Sowemimo, in 2005 it was Hilda Nevoh while in 2006, Ifeoma Yolanda Jones clinched the coveted prize. And in 2007 on the 28th of August inside the Shell Hall of Muson Center, Blessing Bassey it was who beat fourteen other girls who vied for honors at the 4th edition of The Nigeria Model Awards organized and packaged by Legendary Gold Limited in collaboration with Ford Supermodel New York.
The event kicked off with Red Carpet and cocktail at about 6pm while the event proper began at about 7.05pm pm. Packed with fun, excitement and glitz all the way, it saw the models modeling outfits from Joan Okorodudu's House of J'ola, Ore Apparels run by Abolore Sobayo and Blokes and Divas represented by Teddy Legbedion.
With this win, Blessing moves up to Supermodel status and she stands the chance of winning $250,000 at the Ford Supermodel of the World contest in New York. She will ply the runway at The Nigeria Fashion Week and The Nigeria Fashion Show (NFS) in August and September respectively. She will also grace the catwalk at the NFS in Paris later in the year.
She also stands a chance of winning $150,000 and $100,000 worth of modeling contract for the 1st and 2nd runners-up positions respectively. An elated and overjoyed Blessing Bassey praised God for the victory. Blessing who always dreamed of becoming a model and now seeing her long time dream fulfilled also thanked her fellow contestants who in her words "made the total experience especially the one week pre event camping very worthwhile" Still speaking, "I can't wait to get to New York. I hope I get a chance to discover the city. I'm looking forward with excitement to meet the other girls from around the world, work really hard on my cat walking, boldness and confidence and possibly win the event and really become a Supermodel.
Among the girls who jostled for the prize were Abbas Ifunanyachukwu Nancy, Adeniran Adejoke Tolani, Aganga Keme Love, Akanibo Sokari Favour, Bassey Blessing, Chukwuzubelu Blessing Chidimma, Eriata Faith Eriata, Ezike Linda Uju, Fashola Bose Blessing, Felicia Ogunkoya, Nwagbe Uche Eva, Nwamgbe Ozichi Glory, Odukwe Chinedu Nkiru, Oshinowo Naomi Yetunde, Sido Eloho Silvia and Van Damme Eleanor Adindu. Speaking about the very successful event, Robert Knapp, head scout for Ford Supermodel of the world New York who flew for the event as sole judge expressed the delight and privilege for Ford having Legendary Gold as worthy partners and Nigerian representative owing to its professionalism organizational abilities.
Ifeoma Yolanda Jones, winner of the last edition also made an appearance at the event. She evoked catcalls and excitement from the crowd as she made her final official walk as queen. The NMA 2007 was supported by Kenya Airways - The pride of Africa, DHL, Ovation International, Universal Basic, the Muson Festival, Digiprints, Galaxy TV, Video Fashion, La Campaign Tropicana, Escade, Signatures, Link 65 and Prime time Africa.
