David Taylor was a Nigerian produce merchant who was an official member of the Anti-Slavery and Aborigines Protection Society. He was born in Lagos in 1865 and started work as an assistant with Messr. W.B. Maclver. In 1891, he established a small store on Balogun Street, Lagos where he was quite successful. He later opened more branches of the store.

David Taylor was also fond of traveling having visited London and Paris.
