Dora Maude Akanya is a Nigerian administrator who was a commissioner for Health and Social Welfare in the old North Central State. She is one of the earliest high profile female administrators in Nigeria.

Dora was born in Lokoja and was educated at the Nigerian College of Arts, Science and Technology, Zaria. She also attended Rolle College, Exmouth, England a Danish teachers college in Copenhagen.

She worked with the Public Enlightenment Division of the Ministry of Education and Information before becoming the principal of Girls Secondary School, Minna now named Mariam Babangida Secondary Girls School. It was while performing her duties as principal that she heard her name mentioned on the radio as the new commissioner for Health in 1967.
