Samuel Imoke

Samuel Efem Imoke was a Nigerian physician, author and politician who was a minister of Labour in the 1950s, and later that of finance and education in the Eastern region of Nigeria.


Imoke was born on January 26, 1912 to Imoke Ezeghe Efem. He attended C.M.S. School, Itigidi, Government College, Umuahia and the Yaba Higher College. He then worked as a medical assistant at the Makurdi and Zaria General Hospital before becoming a medical officer at a clinic in Port Harcourt. In the 1950s, he was a member of the Eastern House of Assembly holding ministerial responsibilities and by 1961, he had become a leader of the Eastern Regional Legislature.

After the end of the first republic, he established the Eja Memorial Joint Hospital, Itigidi.
