Samuel Oburu Masi was a member of the Eastern Nigeria House of Assembly during the first republic. Prior to entering politics, he worked for U.A.C. and later founded his own firm, S.O. Masi of Aba. As a politician, he was a financial secretary of the Ibo State Union and went on to serve as a parliamentary secretary of Information and Trade in the Eastern regional assembly of the 1950s. During the first republic, he was a minister of state for Information and Welfare.
He was educated at Government School, Omoku.
