Evangeline Adebayo Adelaja was a prominent educationist in Lagos during the nation's pre-liberation period. In 1982, her work in education was rewarded and a Girls Secondary School in the city was named after her. She was also the wife of Beniah Adelaja and daughter of a titled ruler of a town called Idowa.
Eva was born on February 24, 1927. She went to C.M.S. Girls School, Lagos and Ijebu-Ode before proceeding to the Kudeti Girls School and the United Missionary Training School, both at Ibadan. She later attended the University of London's Institute of Education.
