Joshua Olareni Omitowoju (1918) was a regional minister of Chieftancy Affairs in the old Western region who was before that a senator in the First republic. Along with Samuel Akintola, Ayo Rosiji, Adeyi and Adigun, he walked out of the Action Group's Jos convention when the Akintola group tried to make a break from the grips of party leader and parliamentarian, Awolowo.
Omitowoju was born in Ife, to the family of Bakare Oshungbeyide. He went to St Phillips Primary School, Ife and then Government College, Ibadan. He earned his medical degree from the Yaba School of Medicine. He started work in the colonial administration as an assistant medical officer at the General Hospital, Lagos and later became a medical officer working at Adeoyo Hospital, Ibadan (1945-1950), at the Benin, Agbor and Warri General Hospitals. In 1954, he went into private practice later participating in the politics of the time.
